[SOLVED] Toshiba Satellite P500 - External mic not working

SOLUTION (for the lazy readers): Use OSS instead of ALSA

My new Toshiba Satellite is amazing and everything worked right out of the box, except the external microphone.
Here is what lspci -v shows:

I simply got my Toshiba L300 mic working by running "alsamixer" and unmuting the microphone channel, which is often muted by default. Other wise read the above...

My microphone channel is also muted by default. Unfortunately, unmuting it doesn't help. It doesn't seem that ALSA is seeing the microphone at all:

The wiki tips did not help either.

arecord -L doesn't show the microphone either:

# arecord -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
default:CARD=Intel
    HDA Intel, CONEXANT Analog
    Default Audio Device
front:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, CONEXANT Analog
    Front speakers

surround41:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, CONEXANT Analog
4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
surround50:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, CONEXANT Analog
5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
surround51:CARD=Intel,DEV=0

Conexant codecs tend to have issues with microphones in ALSA.
You may want to try OSS, instead.
