Printer stopped working after upgrade - Please help!

I just ran a system upgrade yesterday and now for some reason my printer (a HP Laserjet 1020) stopped working! In the list of jobs it appears as though the job (a test page, for instance) is completed; however, the printer does not print at all. My cups was upgraded from 1.4.5-1 to 1.4.5-2 as was lipcups. I've tried downgrading these to the previous versions which worked but that didn't help. I'm a bit at loss here trying to figure out where to start troubleshooting as the cups error.log does not list any errors either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

EDIT: Un-plugging my usb-mouse seems to make the printer print again. Could it be a port conflict and in case yes, how might it be solved?
