EDIT: Running programs from bash scripts causes unresponsive system

I'm not sure what has happened, I haven't changed anything major.

The mouse cursor is moving really slowly, Firefox and Pidgin refuse to start.

I have looked in logs dated recently and nothing seems to be different, as far as I know.

There are no processes going wild either. Everything has just gone really slow and very, very, very sluggish.

I'm using Openbox with X

Anyone have an ideas? Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

Ok, now I'm slightly confused!! It seems that if I execute programs from bash scripts then I have this problem..
they are only simple scripts like this though:

#! /bin/bash
GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Xfce-dusk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc pidgin

I created, and tried running:

#! /bin/bash
rox

and I still get this problem!!

I'm assuming this has something to do with the bash update a couple of days ago

Try /bin/sh?
