[Request] Ur-Quan Masters

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

ive had a short attempt at getting this to work, but it uses a VERY non-standard build script.
Gentoo has an ebuild for it, but it uses alot of `sed' commands to replace things, and ebuilds look like ass! peh.. gentoo...

if someone could package this for me id be MOST appreciative.

thanks

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

Why is it hard to build? Nothing more than one additional file to provide.

You run the installer local, make a config (build.vars) which is working (i disabled debugging to get it working, as well as i changed the installation path).

Take care that you copy the files yourself, not using the install of the build.sh, since it seems as if the option provided in the installer modifys the sourcecode, so it won't be a good idea to use the $startdir/pkg directory as standard install dir.

Then, more than less, its nothing more than just copying / installing files to a specific directory.

I'm just at a 56k modem at the moment, and can't take a closer look right now. But i've compiled and installed it fine. You can get the package / directory list by just installing it once, so you know which files you need to copy.

Good luck

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

ahh.. its hard because it has a non-standard build script?

it has to be compiled.. its not pre-packaged binaries..
the build scripts are all over the place.. its insane..
i give up..

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

Man..what a shitty build that game has..
That should be used as some kind of test for potential new arch devs to see if people have the skills required to be a dev..
lol

I finally just took the easy route and used my friend diff, with an ounce of sed. The dang configure portion actually creates new files with dependency information. Then you run build depend, and it makes more.. roll

Anyway..here is the PKGBUILD. I haven't tested the final result (ie tried to run the game), but I built it on my test box (no gui so I cannot run it) and it seemed to compile and package up just fine.

It should install to /opt/uqm. I could have put it anywhere, so if it should go in /usr/local or something, let me know..

here is the pkgbuild and diff file:
HERE

I would host the package itself, but I don't really have the Bandwidth for a 130+mb file.  wink

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

im not sure why, but im getting a 404 when it tries to dl the files
(ive already got uqm-source in my cache, so that may be 404'ed aswell)

[root@64-3200 uqm]# makepkg -c

it doesnt make any sense to me because the files in the PKGBUILD appear fine, and i can manually download the file?!

im assuming it means that that specific mirror (150.65.7.130) doesnt have that specific file? which shouldnt happen since the file is quite old and wouldve been synched along time ago..

strange

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

I spotted this thread yesterday and gave it a burl. No problems here. A big download though.

I seem to remember it stalled on one of the files, so I hit control-c and tried again and it worked fine.

I been having a bit of a play. Heh heh, dated but fun.

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

I used the main dl site, so the links wouldn't move. Maybe there is a better mirror to use, but that is the one used by several pkgbuilds..
anyway, the dl sourceforge site can be a bit surly. Just download the correct versions using the faster links on the main sf project site. Put them in the same dir as the pkgbuild, and then run makepkg. It should pick them up locally just fine (as if they were downloaded already).

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

kick ass! thanks cactus.. dunno where we'd all be without you!!

i wouldve given it a shot but i was insanely tired and giving it a shot myself didnt even cross my mind *slaps head*

[edit] hmm.. youre pkgbuild depends on mesa? im not sure why youve put that in as a dependency since nvidia drivers, etc, have their own opengl implmentation [/edit]

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

I think the way I did the config for it (options chosen) depends on mesa. Not everyone has nvidia drivers.
I believe that is how I did it last time too.

Re: [Request] Ur-Quan Masters

i've tried this game yesterday, i got some errors/warnings when playing it writes on console about thread blocking(?) on semaphores, and then the game hangs, it's unable to play ;/
i use arch/testing and gcc 4.1.0 [was in testing some time ago:)]

i don't like people saying that program doesn't work but printing on the console weird message like "bash: command_name: command not found" (it's real!!)
BTW, I'm using Jabber - the best IM protocol ever seen:)

Uqm 0.5 is out and those links here (two as I can see) are broken.
