A good update notifier

Well, i was looking for some kind of daemon or app that could stay in the notification area periodically (lets say every 3 hours) updating the local software database and display some kind of warning when there are some available updates.
Something similar to gnome's update warning messages or windows update......

Does it even exist??

I use alunn, because it has a happy pacman icon when updates are available
