[SOLVED] Display Repaint/Invalidation issues (Nvidia NVS + Gnome)

The problem:
Sometimes parts of display do not refresh. Especially when running on batteries (when video card slows down thanks to nVidia's PowerMizer).
It manifests itself in various ways:

* When typing something in Skype text shows up after a delay, when you try to edit previous text it won't refresh (moving cursor left-right reveals letters). The longer the string, the bigger drawing delay/glitches get.
* Sometimes popup menus won't show up when clicking on panel buttons (or submenu items)
* Sometimes Opera won't show a part of the web page (AJAX-driven repaints), unless I zoom in/out
* Sometimes dropdowns won't drop, like if someone has eaten my mouse click
* Sometimes parts of text in gVim disappear, usually when scrolling

My setup:

* I am running Gnome with latest everything and binary NVidia drivers, also latest versions.
* This happens only when Compiz is active.
* I've been having this issue ever since I bought this laptop: Thinkpad T510 with Nvidia NVS 3100M.

Its not a HUGE pain, the laptop is perfectly usable, but everything gets x5 worse when I'm on a battery and it's starting to get on my nerves. There have been numerous updates to XOrg and nVidia binary driver but nothing has changed.
