Okay, this kinda strange.
I have Awesome installed. Whatever I do, The default config file (/etc/xdg/erawesome/rc.lua) always loaded together with my config and give me these problems:
Instead of having 9 screens, it have 18 (9 from my config and 9 from default)
My menu always overriden with default config. if I put my custom menu on default,Awesome will crash.
If i rename or delete default rc.lua, Awesome will crash
Another user seems like having same problem here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=854036
Uninstall awesome and use awesome-git give me same result. I'm not sure this caused by Awesome or my box, so if any other user have experienced this problem before, please share any workaround to deal with this.
System specification:
- P4 Dual Core (E5300) with Intel 82G33/G31 Express IGC
- Arch 32bit (i686)
- SLiM for login manager

Well, I only see this kind of behaviour when doing something wrong. Most probably, there's an error in your rc.lua. It doesn't need to be a syntax error (which would be detected by "awesome -k") – it's more likely to be a runtime error.
You should have a look at awesome's output on stderr to find out what's going on.

well, as you guess my syntax check never return an error, which pretty confusing
