kde-meta killed my network connection

Hey there everyone.

I just installed kde-meta and phonon-xine as per the instructions in the KDE wiki article, and after  I was done, i added hal to my DAEMONS list in /etc/rc.conf. I rebooted my computer so that hal can start up and now my network connection does not work at all. I attempted to fix it by removing hal and rebooting again but still I cannot get my network connection to work. Is this something normal? Please help
