LCD Brightness Toshiba Equium A100-147

I can't seem to set the brightness on my toshiba laptop.

$ xbacklight -set 00
$

Seems to pause for a while then returns a prompt as if it had completed but nothing changes.

$ toshset -lcd 50
required kernel toshiba support not enabled.

Self explanatory.

$ sudo setpci -v -s 00:02.1 F4.B=00
0000:00:02.1 @f4 0

This doesn't do anything either.

My current battery life is appalling. After a full charge and 35mins uptime I'm now on 43%. I have an xterm, google-chrome, X11 and fluxbox open. I've enabled most of the things in the laptop-mode daemon and another odd point if that my fan seems to be turning on at 46deg and off at 45deg. So all I can hear is fannnnnnn, offffffff, fannnnnnnn, offffffffff.

Weird.

Also, I'm using the xf86-video-intel-newest from the AUR.

Any help on any situation would be great. Thanks.

Re: LCD Brightness Toshiba Equium A100-147

Just been digging around and found this:

$ cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
levels:  0 20 40 60 80 100
current: 40

but I can't write to it:

$ ls -l /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 21 15:06 /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
$ sudo echo 100 > /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
bash: /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness: Permission denied

As root however I can access it:

# echo 20 > /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
# cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness
levels:  0 20 40 60 80 100
current: 20

So the file can be accessed but still no change in brightness...

Try this. I have Toshiba as well so I wrote it to address the issue. Works fine for me.

Re: LCD Brightness Toshiba Equium A100-147

Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't that just write a value to //sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness?

I've tried writing to there as root and nothing changes. It only accepts numbers 0 to 5 too.

Re: LCD Brightness Toshiba Equium A100-147

Yes, actually it does.
Sorry, I must have misread your previous posts.
What is the value in //sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness. On my laptop it is 7 (so the range is 0-7).
There must be some issue with the driver.

Here what I see in lsmod:
i2c_i801                7126  0
i2c_core               15144  5 i915,drm_kms_helper,drm,i2c_algo_bit,i2c_i801
intel_agp              23794  2 i915
agpgart                23120  2 drm,intel_agp
