Re: cant get to the login screen

When you said that you updated xorg-utils... did you update the entire system?  Hand picking packages for updates is dangerous.  Post some relevant log files now that you're in an environment (mount your hdd's /var partition).  Xorg.log would be a good starting place.

You can also edit your /etc/inittab and disable it booting to X for troubleshooting purposes.

Re: cant get to the login screen

i was using yaourt -Syua command. But no updates came from AUR at that time. I wasnt hand picking updates, but updated everything that was offered for me by yaourt. Of course i could use pacman, but i do not think that it was the problem.
Well i guess ill try to boot to console and update again. Maybe something wasnt fully downloaded for some reason.

hm just checked inittab and it shows:

Re: cant get to the login screen

Well, no luck after trying again. Its not going to console, but instead i can see mouse between blinking of the screen. Looks like it trys to load GDM, but only mouse is showing up. /var/log/Xorg.0.log file is empty.

Re: cant get to the login screen

From a livecd, put a ! in front of gdm in deamons rc.conf ... or if you can get to console /etc/rc.d gdm stop

Re: cant get to the login screen

ok i disabled gdm deamon and now can use the console. Great! When I try startx or xinit, my screen starts blinking again for few seconds and i get message something like that:
xinit: connection to X server lost.
Waiting for X to shutdown.
Now i have something in xorg.0.log
