You'll need to provide more details dude. Take xbmc out of the mix for the moment since it introduces another layer and two unique files into the mix.
As I read your post, I'm guess that the answers to my first two questions aren't your problem, but for the sake of completeness and for other users who may find this post in the future:
What does your /etc/lirc/lircd.conf look like?
Have you modprobed the needed modules for your remote as outlined on this page?
What does the output of irw look like when you hit keys?

CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

I noticed same issue. Only update related to lirc was 2.6.36.1 -> .2 kernel when it broke.

to solve problem, need blacklist ir_core module.

I have the same issue. If I disable ir_core module though, I lose my tuner as it depends on it.
Has there been any further info on this?

A "me too" post.
Going to .2 has broken lirc (mceusb remote). I also lose my tuner if I remove ir_core (Dvico Dual Digital 4).
Edit: I've just realised this thread is about 2.6.36.1 -> .2 - d'oh.
