[seq24] Changing Instrument

I installed TiMiDity++ with fluidr3. In the track editor I select [1] 128.0 (TiMiDity port) and no matter what Midi channel I select it only plays a piano sound, with the exception of channel 10 which is percussions.

I'm sure that it should be able to play more than just a piano and percussions judging from the install time. The Arch Wiki article on Seq24 says that I also need to include a Program Change event at the start, then "use the scroll wheel or right mouse button to change the value of the MIDI instrument", but both the scroll wheel and right mouse button seems to have no effect.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I wrote the Arch Wiki article on Seq24.

Since I haven't used Seq24 in a while, I tried changing the instrument by reading what was in the wiki and writing a simple little tune. I took a screenshot:

As you can see, I added a "Program Change" event to the little box area below the keyboard roll. Then, I selected it (you can see that the box is yellow) and changed the value to 55. (Which sounds like an "Orchestra Hit" or something)

Please let me know if you still have trouble getting it to work, or have any other questions. After trying many Linux MIDI synthesizers, Seq24 is definitely my favorite.

Thanks for your reply, I finally figured it out with your screenshot. I'm also becoming very attracted to Seq24 for its simplicity and speed.

It would possibly help other newcomers trying to figure this out by explicitly stating that you have to click and drag the mouse above the initial 0. Or maybe I'm just slow.

I added a bit of clarification to the wiki.

Please feel free to update the wiki page with more details or sections as you learn more and more about Seq24. Maybe the Arch Linux wiki will become the definitive source for Seq24.
