ksoftirqd 100% CPU usage

The last month or so I've had ksoftirqd running at around 100% usage for one of my Core 2 Duo's cores. I've read the man page and see that this is caused by an abundance of soft-interrupts, presumably therefore caused by a bug in some other software? If I understand correctly, is the best procedure to end process one-by-one to see what my be causing the problem? Or I have I completely misunderstood the purpose of this process?

I can provide more information about my system if necessary.
