no signal on startx

my monitor just loses signal and shuts off, when I press alt+ctrl+f1 it works, and monitor turns back on to tty. I'm using nvidia 8400 gs,

Re: no signal on startx

Hello:
What type of cable connects the monitor to yor graphic card?
If is a DVI-D cable, try to connect via a VGA cable.
If yor graphic card has only a DVI conection, there ara adapters DVI-VGA.

Re: no signal on startx

Does it work any better if you remove/rename your existing xorg.conf and let X try to start using 20-nvidia.conf instead?

Tried, comes up with the same result.

EDIT: I don't know what to do with this. Someone have any idea?
