default sound card and alsa.conf

I installed Archlinux on my Asus notebook (A2H/L). Now I'm want to set the default sound card in kernel space. According to the wiki:
Then add the names of your sound card modules to (source[2]):
File: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf (prior to module-init-tools 3.8, use /etc/modprobe.conf)

There was no alsa.conf file in my /etc/modprobe.d directory. There is one in /usr/share/alsa/. Do I use the /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf tot set the default sound card in kernel space. Do I copy it to /etc/modprobe.d? Or should I create a new alsa.conf file in /etc/modprobe.d?

Re: default sound card and alsa.conf

How many sound cards are you using? If there's just one, it's automatically the default - no further configuration necessary.
