MPD & Shoutcast: dies before connecting

read the posts, followed the tutorials, checked the wiki... not sure what's wrong.

I get no errors via console (from what I've seen, but maybe I can try on a higher debugging level or something), but after I add a station to the streaming tab (sonata) or the web radio tab (ario) and attempt to play it, the channel immediately shuts off... like I'm trying to play a file that isn't there.  Any input would be great... any questions, just ask.
