I'm running Arch 64 bit on a DELL Studio 540 PC with a Intel HDA (ALC888) and I have two mics, one in the back and one front. The one in the back works fine but in the front I only getting noise/static (no actual sound). I've tried to fudge around with the sound settings but no luck. Recording with Audacity just gives the noise/static and Skype test call doesn't record anything. I've been trying for 2 years getting the front mich working but no luck so far at least under linux.
