Problem while setting up wireless chip

Hi,
I have a realtek 8192E chip in my laptop, and I am trying to connect wirelessly to a router with WPA2 encryption.
I emailed realtek and got hold of a driver and firmware for the chip, which I then installed.
However when I run the wpa_supplicant command, it cannot authenticate with the router.

 [root@theBakery jack]# wpa_supplicant -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Operation not permitted
Trying to associate with 00:18:f6:0a:4f:01 (SSID='BTHomeHub-111D' freq=2442 MHz)
Authentication with 00:18:f6:0a:4f:01 timed out.

This is the my wpa_supplicant.conf file:

network={
    ssid="BTHomeHub-111D"
    proto=RSN
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    pairwise=CCMP TKIP
    group=CCMP TKIP
    psk=24694ab2f0931c4a9a4fef9cbc49baad908fc3c448c274f2097fad2bb6b828c9
}

Thanks very much.

Re: Problem while setting up wireless chip

Use the verbose switch to get more output from wpa_supplicant.

Does the chip support WPA(2)?

It keeps repeating this. I did manage to get it to associate today, but then I booted up and tried it again later and it didn't work so seems quite temperamental.
My chip does have support for WPA2, the laptop is fairly new and I managed to setup wireless on Windows using the same router (but I'd rather use Arch).
I emailed Realtek and they have sent me another driver which I have tried, and I get the same problem.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Problem while setting up wireless chip

I just downgraded the setup to WEP and it seems to be temperamental aswell.
Cheers.

Re: Problem while setting up wireless chip

Try without the proto=RSN? In fact, you can leave out the pairwise and group line as well I think.

FYI the kernel already provides the r8192e_pci driver and firmware. Please ensure that you have installed yours in the right location to supercede the kernel's version.

I followed the instructions given by Realtek and deleted the r8192e_pci.ko file in /lib/modules/.
Then I installed the .tar.gz package they gave me from source. Would that work?

I tried the different settings in wpa_supplicant.conf and unfortunately got similar results. Maybe I'll try wpa_cli.
Cheers.
