Acer Aspire One - slow GL rendering when not moving mouse

When I run glxgears i get ~32 FPS while not touching anything. The animation is not really smooth, it rather jerks around.
On the other hand, moving the mouse makes the animation much smoother, and the FPS jumps to 62 (Vsynced). Holding the shift key bumps it up to about 57. It almost seems as if it waits for input interrupts to draw, and draws anyway after a timeout if it doesn't receive any, causing slowdown.
I've run with and without compositing (metacity), CPU at 800 and 1600 MHz.

Versions:

kernel26 2.6.36.2-1
xf86-video-intel 2.13.0-4
xorg-server 1.9.2-2
mesa 7.9.0.git20101207-2

Any ideas?

EDIT: Found this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=791667 which describes that it's a known bug.
From the RedHat bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582861

EDIT 2: Running glxgears while simultaneously running

cat /dev/urandom > /dev/null

bumps the FPS up to 62. This seems to be a kernel bug.
