[solved] not mounting cd from laptop cd drive

i have this wierd problem with my laptop.when i put a cd or dvd in the drive i hear it spining but nothing is hapening.
i plugedin an external drive and it works so i thought that my laptop drive is death but u put in ubuntu and reboot.
and a mirikle happend! ubuntu started.it is booting.the drive is working.but after going back to arch nothnig.
the medium is spining but is not being mounted

What kind of disc (apart from the Ubuntu one) are you trying to mount - AudioCD, blank or data?
What DE - if any - are you using? Are you mounting manually or automounting?

Does the machine see /dev/dvd or /dev/cdrom and can you mount it from a shell, ie

sudo mount /dev/dvd /mnt

What DE are you using?

i`m using awesome-wm.

sudo mound /dev/dvd/mnt gives

can`t find /dev/dvd/mnt in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

EDIT

apparently this problem is only shown with thunar.i removed thunar and installed pcmanfm and cd`s and dvd`s are mounting

I think you're trying to mount /dev/dvd on /mnt/dvd (or /media/dvd). You need to point the device (/dev/dvd) to a suitable mountpoint (/mnt/dvd).

I've never used thunar or pcmanfm so I can't speak here.

si probao ovo:

try find /etc/hal/fdi/information/media-check-disable-storage_model_$YOUR_DEVICE.fdi file, 
open it and change 
<merge key="storage.media_check_enabled" type="bool">false</merge>
to
<merge key="storage.media_check_enabled" type="bool">true</merge>

obrisal dbus.pid i hal.pid , rebootal i radi natrag sve :-S
pa na archu budem više naučil u 2 mjesevca nego na debianu u 7 godina!

I know I can use Google Translate (and learn a bit Croatian in the process), but posting in English would help. Does "radi natrag sve" means it's back to normal or you still can't mount CDs?
