"Back/Forward" mouse buttons won't work in Arch in VMware

Hello,

I've been to the "Get All Mouse Buttons Working" page in the wiki, and I've tried everything I know how to get my "Back" and "Forward" buttons on my mouse to work the same way in my VMware virtual machine running Arch Linux, but so far, nothing I've tried works. What's the deal here?

Is this with VMWare Tools installed in the Arch VM?

Does xev register the clicks?

I do have VMware Tools installed, but the clicks don't register in xev.

As it has been almost a week since I last posted here I am forced to conclude there is no solution to the problem I have posed.
