Re: [solved]audio not working

yeah ive searched around but still couldnt figure it out.. thats why im here. smile

i did however make some sort of progress..

i had no ~/.asoundrc file. i created one and added the following and restarted alsa:

defaults.ctl.card 1
defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 1

alsamixer is now available as my normal user but not root. im still not able to play any audio but at least i have access to the mixer now..

when testing with aplay i get the following error:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:654: audio open error: No such file or directory

Re: [solved]audio not working

Check /etc for any old asound configs I am stumped wish I was there then might have more luck

Also check asound.state

Re: [solved]audio not working

ok so i uninstalled alsa and scoured my machine for old config files. cleaned everything out, reinstalled alsa, ran alsaconf, unmuted pcm and master.. everything should have been working properly again.. STILL not getting any audio.

a friend said to me "wait, youre using a thinkpad arent you?" i am. he says, "did you unmute Speaker also?"

i unmuted and my audio is now working again..

pain in the ass. 4 year old installation. the biggest error i have is a PEBCAK..

thanks for all the help guys.
