Microphone problems in Empathy and Pidgin

For some reason my microphone is not working with Empathy nor Pidgin however I can receive others people voice call via XMPP (namely Jabber and Google Talk) and I hear them. Sound quality is quite poor but this might be issue on the other side so it is not that relevant. Other applications use microphone properly - it is working with Sound Recorder, Skype, Google Talk plugin for firefox, etc.

It doesn't matter if I use build-in microphone or attachable one, the situation is always the same.

I have tried to dig into configuration files and clickable options for both of these two IM clients but with no success. Maybe someone has a clue where to look?

I'm having the same problem in pidgin. Haven't tested on empathy yet. I can receive the sound but not send it.
Also I'm able to use the mike in skype and sound recorder. I couldn't get it to work with google talk plugin for firefox though.
