DVD hard freeze: how to troubleshoot?

I've recently tried to backup some of my DVD's from disc to harddisk. I use vobcopy to copy the DVD's but after a few DVD's the system completely freezes. No key press works, no mouse movement, can't SSH into the system. Only option is to hold the power button. The system is otherwise completely stable, it has never locked up in the last year. What could this be and how can I debug this? There is nothing logged in /var/log/kernel.log

Re: DVD hard freeze: how to troubleshoot?

Thanks for the link, too bad I don't get any output in my logs to confirm it (and already bought another DVD burner sad ). I'll check out the patches

Re: DVD hard freeze: how to troubleshoot?

Some more info:
$ uname -a
Linux desktop 2.6.36-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jan 8 13:16:43 UTC 2011 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Arch: standard 32 bit, up to date
Motherboard: Asus P5K
Memory: 4GB
Nvidia 8600GT 512 MB
Ethernet connected, no WiFi.

Don't know if it's related to the other topic because I get no flashing leds so I don't think this is a kernel panic.
