So, banshee freezes when stays idle for some period of time, usually a long one. For example I've just finished watching a 2 hour film and found banshee completely frozen, unresponsive whatsoever. ps reports its status as S and Sl for banshee processes.
I just kill the process and restart the program but it starts getting on the nerves. Why would it freeze like that? It usually happens when it's paused, or stays idle for too long, sometimes it becomes unresponsive after an 8 or so hours long laptop sleep state.
Any ideas?

There's not enough info to give a good answer, but here are some first steps you could try. Disable all plugins and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, re-enable them one by one to figure out which plugin is the problem.
Open banshee from a terminal, monitor banshee's resource usage with top or your preferred system monitor, try to get it to freeze again, and save any output from the terminal. If this doesn't hint at a solution take your problem to the banshee developers for support and/or a bug report.
