Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Just wanted to say thanks to graysky for his work on this.  I used to compile my own -atom kernels for my netbook but decided to try the CK patchset which I was initially wary off concerning power usage.  My netbook with kernel26-ck-atom x86-64 is absolutely flying, just feels more responsive all over and I've not noticed any additional power drain and still get 6hrs + out of my netbook on the road.

The mind roams more freely in empty rooms.

@Mey - you're welcome.  Glad to hear you're happy with the packages.  Yeah, ck claims you actually get greater battery life using his scheduler as I recall.  BTW, I am re-uploading the packages now based on xclaude's comments (page 13).

@Zom - try it now.  I confirmed all files by sha224sum.  Giant pain in the ass: upload 655 MB, download the same 655 MB.  Compare sha224sums smile

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@pshr - an unfortunate side effect from fixing the dependency issue I'm afraid; It is however easily fixed smile

# pacman -S ck-core2
:: There are 4 members in group ck-core2:
:: Repository kernel26-ck
   1) broadcom-wl-ck-core2 2) kernel26-ck-core2 3) kernel26-ck-core2-headers 4) nvidia-ck-core2

Enter a selection (default=all): 2
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: kernel26-ck-core2 and kernel26-ck are in conflict. Remove kernel26-ck? [y/N]

EDIT: what's odd is that on one of my core2 machines using the repo packages, the upgrade went off without a hitch?!

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Is virtualbox 4.0.12_OSE the same PKG as community/virtualbox?  Also, are you doing it via /etc/rc.d/vboxdrv setup ?

EDIT:  I installed the repo core2 package (x86_64) and it built up just fine...

# /etc/rc.d/vboxdrv setup
:: Unloading VirtualBox kernel modules [DONE]
:: Removing old VirtualBox netadp kernel module [DONE]
:: Removing old VirtualBox netflt kernel module [DONE]
:: Removing old VirtualBox kernel module [DONE]
:: Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules [DONE]
:: Reloading VirtualBox kernel modules [DONE]

EDIT:  Interesting... it works under x86_64 but not under i686.

Zom wrote:

Zom - are you using x86_64 or i686?  We know that theringmaster is using i686 and it isn't working for him... I compared both the .config and the PKGBUILD for x86_64 and i686 and they differ only where they are supposed to differ.  I can't think why virtualbox would behave this way under i686 but not under x86_64.

EDIT2:  Is your problem related to this thread somehow?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

OK!  I found the source of the problem building the virtualbox drivers on i686 with the repo packages and corrected it.  The problem seems to be stemmed from the fact that I was cross compiling using the gcc-multilib packages.  When I went back to compiling i686 under a native i686 chroot, the virtualbox modules built just fine for me on two test machines (generic and core2).  I can't explain why but it's fixed now.

@theringmaster - please try the repo packages for k10 in about an hour when they will be online and let me know if this fixes your issues.  As always, thank you for reporting them!

EDIT:  OK, should be online now.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@mah0 - not sure what to think about what you've posted.  Logs are under /var/log - most relevant one I think is /var/log/dmesg.log

Note that that file gets overwritten each time you boot, so if you boot into another kernel, you'll overwrite it and any debug info.  Do this:

1) After the crash, boot to a live CD
2) Mount the partition that contains /var from the live CD
3) Copy the dmesg.log to a new filename and post it to pastebin so we can see it

Hey Greysky! This thread seems to grow a lot and is becoming way too diverse. Is there a way we can organize all questions concering ck kernels and your great packages in a more structured way? A new forum index cathegory? Whatever gets the job done.

I know it's OT but I know I'll reach the rigth people this way.

@swanson - Good observation.  Wish I had an equally good answer!  I guess the best way to keep the signal-to-noise ratio up for this particular thread is to depend on the users to open new threads with good titles when they have problems that aren't directly related to the repo.  Recent examples:

graysky,
Here is my dmesg.log. But there are no errors I get during boot process. I've found that all errors appears during execution rc.sysinit script, but I don't know how to log its output.
