Slow keyboard response.

Have a updated fresh ArchLinux install, tree days old.

I have an issue with the keyboard slowing down after a while.

When the machine have just booted, the keyboard works fine. But after some time, it starts reacting a bit slow to key pressing. Takes a little less than half a second from the key press to the letter appears on the screen. This happens only in xorg. If I quit xorg and start it over again, things work fine for a while, then the same problem.

The issue is global, meaning that it is slow in every program running in xorg.

I have tested both Fluxbox and Awesome as VM. No difference.

The hardware is a brand new Intel Sandy Bridge system, with a quad core 3.3 GHz processor, 8GB RAM and an Nvidia GF 460 GPU. Have installed the Nvidia drivers, and I am running xorg without an xorg.xonf.

I'm not sure where to start looking. Have searched the net for solutions, but I have not found anything.

I have a Thinkpad T400 running ArchLinux without this problem.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Re: Slow keyboard response.

Something like that can happen when CPU usage is high (for example when a (flash) game is running.) Maybe BFS can help (kernel26-ck.) I don't know if the problem I'm talking about can happen on your hardware though.

Re: Slow keyboard response.

Top reports a CPU usage at 0.1%. It is till an issue if the only thing I have done is to reboot, start a terminal and left the computer alone.

I was thinking that it might be a result of something going to sleep after a while since this happens when the computer has not been used for an hour or so. Maybe the HD?

Re: Slow keyboard response.

Have tested with a PS2 keyboard, and it is the same there. So I guess not a keyboard issue.

I have been using the computer around six hours without long breaks. No problem at all. Then I left it for a few hours, and when I came back the problem was there. Have tried to copy stuff from one place to another on the HD, in order to "wake" up the HD. But still the same issue.

Any more ideas?

Re: Slow keyboard response.

I have tested with running rtorrent constantly now for a week, and the problem is gone. So it might seem like this is a HD issue, since rtorrent keeps the disk 'alive' right?

Re: Slow keyboard response.

Hi,

I know the last post is old now but I'm facing approximatively the same issue on Awesome WM (ubuntu/debian based).

Have you found a solution or more information on this topic?

Thanks a lot.

Re: Slow keyboard response.

In case anyone else runs into this issue, it is probably due to the slow keys feature becoming turned on:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=816764

The disable it, hold shift for 8 seconds. So far I haven't found a way to completely prevent this feature but if anyone else has ideas I would be interested to know.
