wicd tray icon artifacts in KDE4

I've noticed that in KDE4, parts of tooltips and menus that overlapped the wicd tray icon get incorporated into its background. So if I right-click on the icon for instance, then part of the right-click menu will show up behind the icon. Functionality isn't impacted at all, but it looks a bit strange, so I'm wondering if there's a workaround...

(BTW this is with the Composite and Damage extensions disabled for performance reasons, as per the Arch wiki.)
