Problems after suspending

I just installed Arch Linux and everything is going well so far except for one problem. I am using a laptop, and most of my function/special keys work fine (with the exception of mute which isn't recognized). I can adjust the brightness up and down, etc. But if I suspend and resume the computer the brightness gets locked at about 60%. When I try to adjust it via the function keys, the brightness picture at the bottom comes up and the bar goes up and down as it usually does but the brightness doesn't actually change. I've searched around the forums and haven't been able to find any solutions. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Re: Problems after suspending

Sorry, just realized this should probably go in the laptops subforum. Could somebody move it for me? Thanks.

Re: Problems after suspending

Same problem here. I can control brightness at first, but I can't after waking up from suspend.

Here's what I get from lspci.

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family HECI Controller #1 (rev 04)
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579V Gigabit Network Connection (rev 04)
00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev b4)
00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 (rev b4)
00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev b4)
00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 5 (rev b4)
00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 (rev b4)
00:1c.6 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev b4)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 04)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation HM65 Express Chipset Family LPC Controller (rev 04)
00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 04)
01:00.0 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd Device e823 (rev 04)
04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000
05:00.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04)

And some lines from dmesg.

[ 701.871601] ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness
[ 702.031208] ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness
[ 702.410469] ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness
[ 702.611288] ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness

Mysteriously, I always get "ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness" no matter the brightness control is working or not.

I also tried the Kamal's kernel, but still no luck.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on here?

Re: Problems after suspending

For Toshiba R830 series, there is a way to make it work with toshiset. See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132044. This problem is also carried through to the new Z830 series. Don't know if there is a solution for other laptops.
