I'm trying to change icon-theme on my gnome desktop. I can't. I have tried to use gnome-art-ng and manually installing and I have tried the appearance dialog from system settings menu. It stays with the default icons. I can change the theme. Thats no problem. But how do I change the icons. I'm on arch x86_64. Fully up to date.

System --- Preferences --- Appearance
Then select the theme and then customise you will see at the top a tab with icons
A quick search on installing/changing icons is a search away

Yes. The theme changes that way but not the icons. I have a theme installed with gnome-art-ng and I also changed theme your way but when trying to do that with an icon-theme doesn't change anything. How can I do it in a way that creates a log or some kind of output?
I have tried with 4 or 5 different iconthemes. No difference.

Really depends on how you are installing them, send me a link to a set and I will give them a go
I put mine for example in ~/.icons folder

OK. Now I have a new theme. I had to restart not only logging out.
