GNOME Keyboard configuration uses US layout no matter what I set it to

Hi there,
I have added my countrys layout to System->Peferences->Keyboard, moved it to the top, but it always defaults to US layout. I even tried removing the US layout from the list, but it gets added automatically and chosen as the default. I have to manually select my countrys layout after each time I boot up. Does anyone know how I can force GNOME to use my countrys layout at boot?

What happens if you try to set the layout from console, with the setxkbmap command? (You find its possible options in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/) If it works, you can place that command in a startup script.

use gdm and select thelayout from the drop down list. That would be passed at login to the gnome-settings-daemon and it would be used by default.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
