[SOLVED]browser file association problems

I've installed both firefox and chrome and neither of them can open any file right. For example, when a download is finish in chrome and I double click that file ( no matter what the file type is) chrome would then open that file with firefox which makes no sense to me. And then firefox doesn't know what to do with the file either. It does not associate file types (in the "Open With" part of the download dialog)., which in this case is transmission.

Just to clear things up, i'm not using any sort of desktop enviroments. I've also installed libgnome and the problem persists. And the program also runs fine If I double click say, in thunar it will then open it in transmission as it should.

Re: [SOLVED]browser file association problems

Try installing perl-file-mimeinfo and see if that helps with Chromium.

As for Firefox, once you tell it to open a file with a program, it should remember it. Here I am telling Firefox to open a zip file with File-roller:

The second time you open a zip, you will no longer see the program name but it still opens in File-roller:

Wow thank you, that worked perfectly fine. I'm just wondering why its not included by default.

That is a nice way to do it, but i'm looking for better alternatives.
