Hiya people
I have a router with the option to stablish the wifi connection using the standard G, the standard B or the bot (B and G)
Who is the difference between select the MIX transmission or select only the G transmission?
Have a mix transmission can affect the efficiency of the connection?
the router is a linksys WRT54G
thanks

What's your concern? Both standards work at the same frequency. 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b afaik, but you'll have to look very hard to find 802.11b stuff nowadays.

G is 54Mbps and b is 11Mbps. If you are in mix mode you can have g and b devices in the same network. Problem is, if you hook up a b device, the *entire* network will drop to b mode, so it's bad for your faster g devices.
B devices aren't that hard to find. The Nintendo DS is a b device for example.

I was talking about modern stuff. You can't really claim 2004 is modern.
He should say why he's asking, I see little point in discussing 802.11b/g when he just says he has a router that can do both. Plenty of people have that kind of hardware...
