Trouble with network

Hi,
I have been using Archlinux  on my computer over the past four years, without any problems. But lately I have encountered a somewhat strange situation: while installing, I cannot access to the network through eth0. Or, to be more precise, I get stuck to a max of 10 kb/s, and a erratic connexion, which prevents me for achieving a proper installation.
I suspect a compatibility problem with my pci network adaptor, a Realtek (using the r8169 module).
ifconfig shows the link is up; ping is working, but very slowly. I checked the DNS parameters also.
Curiously, others Linux distributions are working without any flaws; I have temporarily switched to debian. But I would like to get back to Arch asap.
Have you heard of any recent troubles with realteks cards and Arch?
Thanks for your feedback,

Re: Trouble with network

Thank you for your reply.
I tried it, without success.
I also tried a live CD derived from Arch -ArchBang- and it did not work. Every other linux distribution works.

Re: Trouble with network

What is your network card ?
Are you using dynamic or static network config ?
What version of Archlinux Live CD are you using ?
Are you installinig archlinux in virtual mashine ?

Might be someone can help you if you give detailed info .

Check arch wiki and this forum about realtek network cards .

Re: Trouble with network

here's some information:
network card:
-Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)
-dynamic config (as I did over the last years, without pb)
-I tested 2010.05 and a 2009 CD
-no virtual machine.

I browsed the wiki and various forums, without success. I found this thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111940) which seems close to my problem but did not provide any solution for me.
Thanks in advance.
he only change in my config is the router. I cannot understand why it works under debian/ubuntu/gentoo and not under arch or archs flavours.

Re: Trouble with network

You're not trying to use the throttled main Arch Linux mirror, are you?

The first point to verify whether hardware is behaving strangely is dmesg, followed by other logs.

Re: Trouble with network

I also have sporadic problems with my realtek. Two techniques I use to bring my network back up to speed are:

First, restart networking (this works about 50% of the time)

sudo /etc/rc.d/network restart

if that doesn't work...reboot

third (this is a strange one) (YMMV depending on type of bios)
-go into your bios, enable lan boot, save changes, exit, go back into bios, turn lan boot off, save, exit, boot normally (you don't have to boot into an os between these steps)
-if you don't have lan boot option in your bios, turning of networking, then turning it back on does the same thing.
