Hal making problems?

I have two problems that, i think are together related...

1)
ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xfa106000 port 0xfa106100 irq 40
ata10: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0xc200 ctl 0xc300 bmdma 0xc408 irq 16
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
ata1.00: ATAPI: PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-216D, 1.08, max UDMA/66
ata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xef)
ata1.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
ata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xef)
ata1.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
ata1: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata1.00: limiting speed to UDMA/66:PIO3
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310)
ata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xef)
ata1.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
ata1.00: disabled
ata1: hard resetting link
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310)
ata1: EH complete

2) When i start K3B i get error:

No optical drive found.
K3b did not find any optical device in your system.
Solution: Make sure HAL daemon is running, it is used by K3b for finding devices.

Any ideas? I thought it would be permission problem so i wanted to chmod 666 /dev/sr0...but there is no /dev/sr0...

For some tasks, the CLI is quicker. That's not elitism nor arrogance, that's just a fact of life.

Re: Hal making problems?

Hm...seems to be a well known bug...

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=242111

My kernel is:

 [tomek@kanta ~]$ uname -r
2.6.36-ARCH

Why am i experiencing this, it should be fixed by now?

Re: Hal making problems?

Changed AHCI to IDE mode on my P35-DS3 MBO and now it all works...still...strange...
