After upgrading to KDE 4.6, Dolphin, as well as Krusader, no longer display my (extra) harddisks or attachable media. I get no further than root. Removing HAL didn't help. Anything else I can try?

Do you have a dbus entry at the /etc/rc.conf DAEMONS section? Quit KDE, start dbus and try again.

I had removed dbus from rc.conf. Quitting / reentering KDE and restarting dbus did the trick, as you suggested.
Thanks much!

Well, not entirely - I don't have user permission to mount the disks, although I belong to these groups:
"disk lp wheel locate dbus video audio optical floppy storage power users user pulse-rt"
What am I missing now? :-)

I installed 'udisks' and can access my hd's from KDE.
