Hi, i tried change brightness via keyboard shortcuts, it works fine, but it has only 10 levels of brightness, where is the value of brightness ?? I found /proc/acpi/video/OVGA/....../brightness, but there is <not supported>. I tried set brightness via xrandr, but with no effect (some errors). Help please ...

Hi Stankar,
I am not sure if this applicable to your situation but I also had a great deal of trouble adjusting the screen brightness. I eventually found the following file /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/[**]/brightness
** = varies, mine was acpi_video0
the following worked for me:
echo -n [value 0-8] > /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
I then made simple scripts to use xbindkeys and link my screen up/down to these scripts.

"Only" 10 levels? How many do you expect? 10 is quite standard. It's how many I have on a A110. And here too /sys/class/backlight is empty.

Novartum: in /sys/devices/virtual i don't have backlight directory and i can't make it (permission denied - i'm root only)
Gusar: 10 levels are little, but i expected i can change number of levels manually. I read some forums and it seems backlight cannot change from some bios version, where was backlight table. I know how i can change the "backlight" with xrandr, but i can change only software backlight, lcd have other backlight which i still cannot change
