I'm in correct groups:

I had that problem before. I beleive I uncommented my cd in /etc/fstab. That fixed the cd part.
I added to my .xinitrc
exec ck-launch-session gnome-session
and all was well.

I'm having the same problem at the moment. I remember fixing this on a Fresh install as suggested using ck-launch-session, but this time it seems to be a no-go.
