Cannot get aliased font right

I'm using a font called Pragmata which i would like to display without anti-aliasing. This is how it gets displayed on Mac:

The anti-aliased version looks about the same on my system with the -ubuntu patches. However i cannot seem to get the aliased version right:

The c and s are garbled, the dot on the i is wrong. etc.

Any suggestions what i could do to fix this?
