Something happen to VLC in the last 2 updates?

VLC was my go-to media player for everything.. since 2 updates ago, and this last one.. VLC opens.. and when you try to browse to play a file, (like I've done many many tmes) its freezes solid..
have to try to close it like 5+ times before it lets you terminate the application in kde..

any ideas? I browsed the last 3 pages of multimedia threads, I can't be the only one with this issue..

i do miss vlc terribly..

any help would be most appreciated

there are NO error messages to copypaste here to explain why this is happening, but I know it did update 2x in last 2 weeks..
so that's what i narrowed it down to be causing whatever the issue is

it actually works, but you have to wait for like 20-30 seconds and then a window opens where you can choose a file to play...

You can try removing vlc and delete the vlc pkg from /var/cache/pacman/pkg/,then re-download the file

How is that going to help anything?

The package might have been corrupted when he installed it,If that's the case and I'm not saying it is,and he removes the pkg and reinstalls it without removing it from the
pacman cache first won't pacman just use the same pkg to install it again

Re: Something happen to VLC in the last 2 updates?

Given it passes the md5sum check to be installed, it is unlikely to be corrupt.  Also, the first reply in the thread link to the bug that causes this issue.

'links' rather than 'link' I'm sure, I should start keeping count smile.

And does pacman really do a md5sum check on installation? I'm sure it doesn't when using -U at least (as the AUR helpers do it), but I simply assumed the same checks (or lack thereof) applied with -S. Its cool that it checks tough.

Re: Something happen to VLC in the last 2 updates?

I assume VLC is installed using "pacman -S vlc" in which case pacman checks the package md5sum against the value in the repo database.
