xfree to Xorg move

I would like to remove xfree and use Xorg. Should I expect any problems? (This box is used as the main computer for our school so I am a little more careful than with my own box.)

Re: xfree to Xorg move

For me the switch was suprisingly easy. I think I needed to change the keyboard driver from "Keyboard" to "keyboard", but other than that the config is exactly the same (it's even still called XF86Config).

No guarantees though...

Re: xfree to Xorg move

just do like this:

# pacman -Rd xfree86
# pacman -S xorg

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

Hm, I just did it with -Su, nothing wrong with that, is it?

Nope. Just calls sysupgrade to happen as well.

The driver should actually be called "kbd" not "keyboard". keyboard is the legacy driver, kbd is the new XOrg keyboard driver.

Re: xfree to Xorg move

I remember lots of trouble when people started switching to xorg,
removing xfree first did the trick then but maybe it's not needed anymore,

and don't forget to set the keyboard driver as mentioned above,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

i think it's symlinked now to be safe.... so technically you don't *need* to change it

but yes, I recall the "-R then -S" thing for switching from xfree to xorg as well

But you still should. It's not going to be symlinked forever.... My computer has issues if "keyboard" is used instead of "kbd" for some reason.
