[SOLVED] gnome panel broken

ok so my system is totally up to date.  I activated auto-hide for the bottom gnome panel and now it is stuck hidden.  It shows up as a thin white line, like a normal hidden panel, but never un-hides when my mouse is over it.  i have rebooted, logged out, and thrown baseballs at it, all to no avail (ok maybe no baseballs).  any1 have any sort of fix?? any fix at allll???
