The sound is only coming from right channel. How can I make it stereo?

Re: [solved] Only mono sound

I would be difficult to reply without more information. A few suggestions:

Be sure that you file is actually stereo.
If you are using plain alsa check the balance with alsamixer

You might want to reset the sound configuration to the default: edit /etc/conf.d/alsa and replace the line
SAVE_VOLUME="yes" by  SAVE_VOLUME="no". Remove /var/lib/alsa/asound.state and /etc/asound.state and reboot. Reconfigure the volume with alsamixer (or another mixer).

You might also want to test your speaker with speaker-test.

I all of this fails make a Google search wit the name of you sound card, dmesg, etc...

1- Yes, I'm certain that the file is stereo.
2- There is no "Balance" option in alsamixer and I'm using PulseAudio.
I'll try to reset the configuration.

Yes there is. Press "?"  in alsamixer and read on (or read the manpage).

Re: [solved] Only mono sound

Did you try speaker-test?  Have you tried using these speakers on another system / mp3 player to make sure they are not bad.  Are there any errors in dmesg about the soundcard?  Have you tried rotating the plug to see if the connection is bad?

1- Yes. The output is:

speaker-test 1.0.23

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 192 to 2097152
Period size range from 64 to 699051
Using max buffer size 2097152
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 524288
was set buffer_size = 2097152
 0 - Front Left
Time per period = 11,343879
 0 - Front Left
Time per period = 11,319643
 0 - Front Left
Time per period = 11,386925
 0 - Front Left
Time per period = 11,311823
...

It goes on like this forever.

2- No, they are embedded on my monitor. But, I have a spare pair of speakers. Should I try them?
3- Yes. I suspect of it. Because, I managed to change the channel to the left just by rotating plug.

The first two things I would try, before anything else, is testing another set of speakers and also testing those speakers on another device.  Because it seems like it may be the hardware and not the software.

Re: [solved] Only mono sound

If you change the speaker just by rotating the plug I highly suspect a bad connection, please check with others speakers. For the speaker-test you should first type this command "man speaker-test"

Re: [solved] Only mono sound

I plugged in another set of speakers and still, the sound from the left channel is almost none.

Re: [solved] Only mono sound

Fixed it! The problem was a broken cable between speakers and sound card. I replaced the cable and works perfect now! Thank you all!
