When I try to launch any app from the gnome desktop I get "There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to fork (Cannot allocate memory)". The application launches fine from the application menu and the task bar. The system reports plenty of RAM and swap (and it does launch OK from the menu). Why would it fail from the desktop and not the application menu?
