Musescore won't start

I can't get Musescore to start with midi enabled

$ mscore
Alsa_driver: buffer size requested 3342 got 3343
Unable to open file "/usr/share/mscore-0.9//sound/TimGM6mb.sf2"
Alsa_driver: full buffer not available at start.
Segmentation fault

It'll only start with the -s flag, disabling the internal synthesizer. It wouldn't be much of a problem, but with larger projects it's kind of a pain to wait for musescore to export it to a FLAC just to hear how a certain part sounds. I've set up timidity++ as a daemon for ALSA according to the wiki page with no change it seems. Has anybody gotten Musescore to work with midi output?

Thanks in advance

Danny

Re: Musescore won't start

I do not have any experience with Musescore, but do you have the soundfont bank ("TimGM6mb.sf2") installed?
Or perhaps there is some preference in Musescore where you can set the default soundfont to load?

Hope this helps

Any reason you're using v 0.9 rather than 1.0 which is the latest in the repos?

Maybe you'll have better luck with that one.

Re: Musescore won't start

It looks like thats the issue
I am using 1.0
It seems to be looking in the wrong directory for the soundfont file...

Danny

EDIT:
I edited the MuseScore configuration file, ~/.config/MusE/MuseScore.ini to direct it to the correct soundfont directory, and now upon start I get

$ mscore
Alsa_driver: buffer size requested 3342 got 3343
Alsa_driver: full buffer not available at start.
Segmentation fault

sad

Danny

Re: Musescore won't start

Hmm that's strange.  What do you get if you try

mscore -v

?

Either way there seems to be something wrong with the installation.  I'd be tempted to uninstall it, remove/rename all configs and reinstall.

I take it alsa is working happily for other apps.

Re: Musescore won't start

It recognizes it's version correctly

$ mscore -v
MuseScore: Music Score Editor; Version 1.0; Build 3996

Running it in debug mode gives me this

$ mscore -d
global share: </usr/share/mscore-1.0/>
configured localeName <system>
real localeName <en_US>
load translator </usr/share/mscore-1.0/locale/mscore_en_US>
load translator <qt_en_US> from </usr/share/qt/translations>
load translator <qt_en_US> failed
Alsa_driver: buffer size requested 3342 got 3343
connect to midi input <Midi Through Port-0>
load soundfont </usr/share/mscore-1.0//sound/TimGM6mb.sf2>
Alsa_driver: full buffer not available at start.
printer DPI 1200.000000(1200) display PDPI 96.000000(96) DPMM 47.244094
LibraryPath: </usr/lib/qt/plugins>
LibraryPath: </usr/bin>
Segmentation fault

Alsa is working fine with everything else, yeah.
Hopefully a reinstall will get it working, I'll try tonight when I get back home.

EDIT: Reinstall didn't seem to fix anything, still getting the same outputs that I have before sad

Any ideas?

Danny
