Pulseaudio Rear Left/Rear Right volume control not working.

Hey everyone..

As the title says, for me, the rear left and rear right volume controls in pavucontrol do nothing. I've experienced this issue on several distros (actually, on some..adjusting the volume creates a popping sound)..and I've never been able to find a fix. Strangely, it seems the only distro that does it right for me, is ubuntu/kubuntu. Pulseaudio and Pavucontrol works perfectly there.

Any idea on how to fix this? When installing/configuring pulseaudio, I used the archlinux wiki..but it didn't seem to bring me any luck.

Thanks.
Joe

Ubuntu may have some custom adjustments to pulseaudio (not very likely), or you may have simply hit a regression in Alsa or pulseaudio. What does alsamixer do?

Re: Pulseaudio Rear Left/Rear Right volume control not working.

I'm thinking there's some sort of customization by Ubuntu, because I've had this same problem on opensuse, Gentoo, Arch, and others. Alsamixer works fine..and with that I can adjust the rear speakers, but I actually (and it may seem weird) prefer pulseaudio. When I have the rear speakers adjusted, with pulseaudio the levels stay the same (ie the rear speakers louder), even when I adjust the master volume with kmix. With alsamixer however, they always "level out" when I use kmix, so I'm constantly adjusting the rear speaker volume. It's not a big deal of course, just annoying.
