[solved itself] Backlight Brightness Set to Half After Screen Off

I have an Intel GM965, and the backlight brightness has never worked right with KMS. Before KMS was mandatory I'd set acpi_backlight=vendor at boot and I could use the laptop's brightness keys OK. The brightness is still adjustable with the regular keys in the very early boot process until KMS kicks in.

With KMS I've had to map setpci commands to other keys in order to change the backlight level. This has worked OK, but is a bit clunky. And since some update a week or so ago every time I close the lid or the screen goes dark when it comes back on the brightness level gets reset to half. Again, it doesn't break the system but it is fairly annoying.

Anyone else with Intel KMS having these problems?

I don't have the same card, I have the X4500MHD, but I have the same issue with the brightness set to half after screen off. But KMS and brightness keys work, so it's a quick fix. I'd be happy to have it automatic though, if anyone knows (sorry for not helping)
