[SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

I'm running with troubles in this one.

My notebook has a Broadcom 4323 wireless card, wich is correctly recognized and loaded via brcm80211 with kernel (2.6.37-pf3)

I have wpa_supplicant installed, and have followed througoutly the Wireless Setup and WPA supplicant documentation, trying to set it up manually and via wpa_supplicant.conf

My home network uses WPA2-Personal encryption with a passphrase.

Everything goes just as the guides say, until I have to request an IP. DHCP times out waiting for the carrier.

What am I missing here? I even went to the troubleshooting, but didn't work.

Thanks in advance.-

Re: [SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

To be able to help you, we need something to work with...
What too you use to connect?
Logs from that tool why it can't connect?
dmesg or tail -f /var/log/everything?
Error message?
ps -ef | grep dhc ?
ps -ef | grep wpa_s ?

Re: [SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

Ok. The only thing I do before the next steps is to push the WiFi button on my notebook. Otherwise, when doing iwlist wlan0 scan the system will hang.

I disabled network daemon, and then from a terminal did this.

And this is the dmesg after doing that.

Re: [SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

I really think it's not a DHCP issue. It works flawlessly with eth0. I think it has something to do with the config files, but I can't imagine what...

Re: [SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

It is not DHCP.

It looks like you are associating with Argiopea7.  Is that the ESSID of your router?  I'm guessing so because your signal strength looks like your sitting right on top of it.

Unlike WEP, you do not need a passphrase to associate with a WEP or WEP2 router.  The encryption is handled as a higher level -- but if it is not correct, any attempt to use any part of the TCP/IP stack will be unfruitful

I think your problem is with your passphrase and encryption.  You are associating with the router, but are unable to encrypt messages such that the router can decrypt them.  Likewise anything sent to you from the router is gibberish as well.   You might try running wpa_supplicant in interactive mode to ring the problem out by hand.  Other than that, go back a re-check your ESSID / passphrase pairs in your config files.

Re: [SOLVED] DHCP on wireless broadcom

Ok. I got it!

For everyone with a similar problem:

I toke a look to wpa_supplicant while it started using the -d option to debug it.

There are "State" flags on the verbose output wich, as the man page says, signals the current step wpa_supplicant is taking. Mine seemed to reach a point in negotiating the key (as ewaller said up there) where it disconnected.

State: 4WAY_HANDSHAKE -> DISCONNECTED

So I added the update_config=1 option to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf and used wpa_gui to interactively configurate it.
Well, there is and option in the last tab to request a PIN or use the WiFi Protected button. I used the last. It negotiated and connected easily. Then I saved the configuration, did

sudo dhcpcd wlan0

and voila!  brcm80211 with Wireless-N working on my notebook smile

Must thanks you ewaller. Your insight guide me to the solution.
