prboom crashes with SFX sound enabled

Edit: I installed prboom, timidity++, etc, on a test box, and SFX sound works okay on that machine.

So apparently I have hardware / configuration issues on my main system.

--------------------------

When I start prboom normally, with both MIDI and SFX sound enabled, I get the following crash, I_SignalHandler: Exiting on signal: signal 4

(SFX sounds are the gunshots, explosions, etc.)

[myusername@arch ~]$ prboom -iwad /usr/share/games/doom/doom.wad

[myusername@arch ~]$

When I start prboom with the -nosfx option, the game starts, I can hear the MIDI, and it plays, but without the SFX gunshot and explosion sounds.

I'm multi-booting CentOS and Ubuntu on my system, and using the same WAD file, so I'm pretty sure that's okay.

Sound is otherwise working okay.

I have these related Arch packages installed:

local/prboom 2.5.0-4
local/sdl_mixer 1.2.11-2
local/sdl_net 1.2.7-3
local/timidity++ 2.13.2-10
local/timidity-freepats 20060219-5

I have modified /etc/timidity++/timidity.cfg per the Wiki.

[myusername@arch ~]$ cat /etc/timidity++/timidity.cfg

(Commented lines removed.)

dir /usr/share/timidity/freepats
source /etc/timidity++/freepats/freepats.cfg

[myusername@arch ~]$

I've come up empty on Google, this forum, and bugs. So, can anyone help or point me in the right direction? I'm stuck on this one.

Thanks.
