Linux Survey

So I need to test some new software for the office, and I figured I might as well collect some kind of data I could play with at the same time right?

This is a pretty short survey (about 5 minutes) that asks some basic questions about your Linux experience and various preferences.  It’s really straight-forward; all I ask is that you be honest.  I would like to get some good data from this, as I think it might be fun to look at.  Also, please feel free to forward this link, repost it, etc.  My goal is to hit the the Arch, and Gentoo Communities (I got those covered), and also get the Ubuntu Community (my friend has that covered); but I would like to hit other communities as well.  The more data the better!

For those of you interested I am probably going to be doing some basic correlations on the data, and possibly some T-tests and ANOVA’s.  Depending on how those look, and the amount of data I have, I might do some Regressions and/or Hierarchical Regressions.

Thanks for your help! big_smile

Thanks all!  We are up to 21 people already, I thought I would give you a map to look at.  Each dot is a person who took the survey:

With script and cookies disabled, it looks like all pages start with "There was an error on your page. Please correct any required fields and submit again. Go to the first error".

Edit: oh wait, my fault. That was requestpolicy blocking access to other domains.

Re: Linux Survey

Ok, I stopped answering at question 9. Like most surveys, there are answers you can't make... In this case "no, I'm not using a login manager, my computer boots straight into X".
The previous page also had some strange questions.

Re: Linux Survey

Mazur:  I am actually not generating it, it is part of the software (shows on the dashboard).  This new image though is using a program called Tableau that we use at work.

stqn: As long as your filled out the page before it I will probably use your data.  I guess you are saying that you automatically are logged in and then X is started.  I did not account for any automatic logins.

Here is an updated map for everyone with 115 responses.  Used different software this time and generated a much bigger map.  wink

I also have a quick graph that shows the how many people are using various distros thus far.  I don't know if this made it on the Ubuntu site yet, but I did post this on the Gentoo forums as well, and they are still trailing behind Arch in numbers!

I'm using a /etc/inittab method similar to the one explained in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Start_X_at_Boot

Ah okay.  And you are correct, I didn't account for that.  Sorry.  smile

I liked the survey. I think I definitely showed my satisfaction with Arch on it. Haha.
